Housing Solutions :
DuPage P.A.D.S. is committed to providing safe and hospitable shelter, support services and advocacy to people who are homeless in DuPage County.
Vital to this commitment is our collaboration with religious and community groups in the county.
Interim (Overnight) Housing
The Interim Housing Program offers men, women, and children a safe environment. The spirit of hospitality is a priority, as well as respect for each person. Staff and Volunteers provide dinner, breakfast, and a bag lunch; sleeping space; and support activities.
The Overnight Shelter is housed in different churches and congregations each night of the week on a seasonal basis. The Agency is working to provide shelter each night of the year. From October - April, three sites are open each night with a maximum bed capacity of 140. During May - September, one shelter site was open on most nights with a maximum bed capacity of 65.
Transitional Housing
Transitional Housing is a voluntary twenty-four month program for single men and women that can serve as a pathway from being homeless to moving toward obtaining permanent housing.
Homeless persons deal with multiple issues and experience significant barriers to achieving self-sufficiency. The lack of a needed support and a permanent roof over their heads each night means that those who are homeless are able to find only temporary solutions and try to meet immediate needs.
The Transitional Housing Program offers a combination of housing and support services to empower clients to regain independence and reenter the community once again.
Program participants share an apartment that affirms their dignity and self worth as they learn and use skills that they will need in order to live independently. Case managers meet weekly with each client to develop goals and provide ongoing support.
permanent supportive housing
The Permanent Supportive Housing program brings stability and support to men and women who are persistently homeless and facing complex challenges such as limited incomes and issues that may include mental illness, substance use, and disabling health conditions.
Without a stable place to live and a support system to help them address their underlying issues, most homeless people go from one emergency system to the next--from the streets to public hospitals to psychiatric institutions and detox centers and back to the streets--with extremely high cost of this cycle of homelessness, in human and economic terms.
Permanent housing with support assists individuals overcoming these barriers to being housed.
A combination of affordable housing linked with services allows people to live independently while receiving the support they need to remain housed.
